About
Ryan has recently completed his Postgraduate Diploma in Architecture at The Mackintosh School of Architecture (The Glasgow School of Art) after graduating from the undergraduate course with first class honours.
Having studied architecture in both Scotland and Japan, Ryan’s practice is deeply rooted in social sustainability and political agency within the built environment.
His research and design approach explores how architecture can act as a tool for civic activation, with a focus on rethinking the systems that underpin contemporary urban development and architectural production. He is particularly interested in embedding political agency within architectural processes: how acts of making, reclaiming, and commoning can re-democratise our cities and create more equitable modes of living.
Recent work saw Ryan co-edit and publish the 49th edition of the Mackintosh School of Architecture’s annual publication, The MacMag, under the theme of ‘Transgression’.
Additionally, he is heavily involved in the European Architecture Students Assembly (EASA) network, an annual summer event which gathers up to 500 architecture students to live, work, cook, rest, party and learn together for two weeks in different European cities. Ryan is currently the National Contact (NC) for EASA Scotland.
Outside of architecture, Ryan is a keen DJ and is currently playing a key role in re-establishing Hill52 Radio station based in Glasgow.
