PAC-MONDO
EASA Commons, Sheffield
Year: 2023
Mondo Radio is a community radio station based in Sheffield. Broadcasting a diverse range of music from 60+ resident DJs and producers, the grassroots organisation aims to address the underrepresentation of marginalised groups in the local music industry. PAC-MONDO provides the volunteer-led initiative with a package of transportable structures that can host a broad spectrum of events, contributing to the development of the music scene in Sheffield and further afield.
The workshop used a toolkit of scaffolding and textiles to develop a range of scenographies: a weatherproof DJ booth, a modular and expandable dancefloor, and furniture and seating solutions that create a more accessible and inclusive party environment. Through a process of co-design with Mondo Radio’s graphic designer @iam_chriscooper, a series of glyphs were developed to form bespoke textile designs for the structures. The culmination of two weeks work invited a mix of the EASA community and Sheffield locals to put the structures to the test.
